.) Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon - This is the first anime I ever watched knowing it was anime. I unfortunately first watched it not knowing how badly it was dubbed and wondered why everything was written in Japanese. It wasn't until college when I learned about crappy dubbing and editing and sought to get the subtitles and become a purist. SailorMoon was how I ended up bonding with a friend of mine and it was strangely reminiscent of the super girl cartoons I grew up with in the eighties like She'Ra Princess of Power and Jem and the Holograms. This anime will always be a favorite.
.) Slayers - Lina Inverse has got to be one of the funniest anime heroins of all time. And the jokes about her breast size will never cease to make me laugh. I actually can watch either the dub or sub of this anime which makes me love it even more. Even if in the English dub Gourry sounds even dumber than he already is. Plus the songs are really catchy and Filia is comical as well.
.) Fushigi Yugi (The Mysterious Play) - Alternately dark and funny. This is the second anime I ever watched and the second Manga I read. This one was done very well. I loved it and I still do. I just haven't watched it in a while. But some of the stuff that happened in that anime was down right creepy. And again the dub was watchable.
.) InuYasha a Fuedal Fairytale - I was first exposed to this anime thanks to an old friend of mine. This was before it was released in the US as an anime and all we had were the Manga. Honestly when I was reading it back in 2001 I had no idea that Inu Yasha was an anime as well, I just knew that it was written by Rumiko Takahashi and she had also created Ranma 1/2. I remember when I first saw the anime. I was at Poxon Guest house on Ft. Hood in Central Texas. I had just moved down there and there was nothing to do because I didn't have a vehicle. I flipped through the channels until I found Cartoon Network. And back in 2002 they actually played the opening and closings for the anime! It was so cool.
.) Magic Knight Rayearth - this last one was hard to choose. But I did it. I like MKR because it reminds me of Sailor Moon and the dub is still bearable. Plus when Pioneer translated the opening and closing songs they translated them accurately.
I know I'm old school ya?
